Overview of the UART (Universal Asynchronous Receiver / Transmitter) Universal asynchronous receiver transmitter controls the ports and serial devices to a computer. Takes bytes of data and transmits the individual bits in sequence. At the destination, a new UART meets the bits into bytes. There are two primary forms of serial transmission: Synchronous and asynchronous, depending on the modes that are compatible with the hardware. In this case we are interested in the performance of asynchronous transmission, which allows data to be transmitted without the sender having to send a clock signal to the receiver. UART provides necessary functions for RS-232 interfaces, which are used in basic applications for communication with PC and PDAs, audio or video transmission, etc. In the block diagram can be found data, transmission and reception registers, transmition and reception FIFO, mux or register selectors, tansmition and reception control, modem control logic, interruptions control, and the synchronization signals RTS_ output Request, UART transmission request Y CTS Clear to send, Modem transmission enabled
