SCHEDULES

Current we're moving into Milkymist One run 2 schedule, you can check the results of Milkymist One run 1 schedule for more details.

FEATURES

FUNCTION BLOCK

Milkymist One Block Diagram

DESCRIPTIONs of BLOCK

  • FPGA
  • DDRSDRAM
  • USB INTERFACE
  • AUDIO SYSTEM
  • ETHERNET
  • MICROSD CARD READER
  • DMX512/IR
  • BUTTONS & LEDs
  • JTAG
  • UART PORT
  • POWER

APPLICATIONs

  • A system-on-chip implemented in a FPGA has been chosen for meeting this goal at the IP core level.
  • MilkDrop-esque visuals effects in real time, with a high level of interaction with many sensors and using live audio and video streams as a base.
  • Milkymist™ is more than a visual synthesizer - it is also one of the leading open source system-on-chip designs. It is today the fastest open source system-on-chip capable of running Linux, and it comes with an extensive set of features and graphics accelerators.
  • Enables advanced users to modify the design, and also permits compact integration of many interfaces (MIDI, DMX512, analog sensors, video inputs), making Milkymist™ a platform of choice for the mobile VJ.
  • Mixing some live video into the MilkDrop presets.

SCHEMATIC

The newest RC2 design file is moving on and recording in Milkymist One Schematic Change History. The previous RC1 final schematic is 20100424.The related data sheet can be found in Milkymist_One_RC1_BOM. You could know the key part used on each block.

BOM

We're preparing on RC2 BoM which is the BOM list of wiki page, so you can quickly view all information of parts. They will undergo changes even before the PCB prototypes are fabricated. You could also check the previous RC1 BoM.

PCB & Gerber files

LAYOUT Notes

Here's to describe all the layout contents and histories before generating gerbers as clear as possible.

SMT / Through Hole Process

Reports

  • RC1, records all results of mainly functionalities as well as simple test during production.

Known Issues

Developers Needed

  • Priority for development is
    • kernel
    • fpga
    • end-user
      • QEMU is working with the system right now!!
    • VJ app
  • FPGA Developers (hardest to find, what Sebastien is best at)
  • Kernel Developers (hard to find, but there are people helping)
  • End-User Apps

Roadmap

2010

  • Breizh Entropy Congress, April 15-17 in Rennes, France
  • Sebastien will push as hard as possible on FPGA
  • Massive push for getting developers on board to help with kernel, userspace, and VJ applications
    • Options
      • Do Code Challenges for fame and reputation (and money as last resort)
      • Hire developers in other countries (possible, but don't want code dumps or line of sight hacking)
      • Get Cool Developers interested in Ideology is best option, at hackerspaces and conference

2011

  • Mid-2011
    • If we can get more contributors, we are aiming to get out an FPGA version of Milkymist targeted for artists

2012

  • Get ASIC made from the FPGA using either older processes or newer processes depending on monies available. (Sebastien notes that maybe we don't need, because we don't want to be inline with competing with nvidia, etc)
