shevek | I'm looking for a MOSFET, and I have no idea what is a reasonable power dissipation if I want to mount it without a cooling fin. From R_{DS}(on) and the I_D for my application, I can compute the power (R*I*I), but I don't know what is high and what is low. I now have one that would dissipate 500mW. Is that good or bad? What should I aim for? | 10:18 |
---|---|---|
DocScrutinizer05 | aim for one digit milliOhm Ron | 12:50 |
DocScrutinizer05 | 500mW sounds a lot, except for when your app is 2lW or more | 12:51 |
DocScrutinizer05 | without cooling measures you want <<100mW | 13:00 |
DocScrutinizer05 | a proper PCB goundplane is ok for maybe 100 to 250mW | 13:01 |
